slowly getting there...

after a few more days' work, here's what i've come up with:

i'm concentrating on the body at the moment. when i've finished that, i shall work on the face, balancing out tones, shadows, etc. making some of the harsher edges look more subtle and natural. wel that's the plan, anyway!

Grilla: today's work

so, i've made a start on the hair on her head. i began with a very hard pencil and drew in the highlights, as she has lots of soft light-coloured fur that catches the light. i then switched to the darkest one i'm using (2B) and did most of the lowlights, then with a combination of the B and 2B, i have blended the two in an effort to make it look more smooth and natural. this is still a job in progress though!

(Grilla) today's works in progress

gorilla update

here's my latest photo of the gorilla drawing:

i'm posting this in the morning with the aim of posting again later today or tomorrow with a lot more done. gotta get back to the grindstone!

Full range

so if anyone out there is interested (i doubt it!), here i am on my journey from brunette to blonde (strawberry) to auburn(!) to brown.

even if i do look a bit mumsy, i'm more content as a brunette. perhaps it just complements my skin tone better!

seagull, interrupted

my gull drawing is temporarily on hold for my next commission: a lil' baby gorilla. she is only about 6 months old and has the most appealing wet, brown eyes. i'll post my works in progress for all to see. huzzah!

Slow Progress

i am still working on my gull, but seem to be busy all the time at the moment. it's funny how housework can generate itself: even after you've done 'everything' more appears. then my husband gets home and leaves his keys, sunglasses, wallet, ipod, loose change, opened letters etc on the back of the settee that i had cleared just earlier. the mess gets moved from room to room in disorganised piles, but that way, at least i can created an illusion that the house is tidy from the one room as example.

i'd planned on getting some serious drawing done in the latter half of this working week, only to find that my doting husband had kindly organised a couple of days away (in swindon!). to celebrate our tenth anniversary-of-having-met, he took me to the place in marlborough where he proposed. it was lovely and a complete surprise, only marred by a rather untimely bout of gastroenteritis.

finally i am feeling better and ready to draw, but today i am to help promote the show i am in (carousel), so i have about half an hour to draw in. but first i must finish this post, then make a cup of tea - you can see where this is going can't you?

tomorrow we're visiting ikea to get furniture with which to garnish a stall for either/both my husband's photography or my art for as an when we should need them.... i guess i'll start again next week.... (big sigh).
