Latest Commission

This is a really nice job: I went out and took photos of Sam and Lucy having a nice walk on the North Downs, and have made a nice composition out of a particularly nice shot where they are both poised expectantly waiting for the stick to be thrown again!

What you can see here is the work I have done so far on Lucy, the Golden Retriever. I haven't finished her yet, and need to add more darks to create more depth etc. This is from a photograph, hence the grey looking paper.

What's going on?

Where have I been? What have I been doing? I mean, it doesn't seem like I've been putting much effort in on the pencil front, does it? Well, I have quietly and slowly been making progress on my commission work. I admit that I have been slacking on the blog and website updates....

It's difficult working full time and trying to find the energy/patience to sit down at a drawing table, no matter how much you want to: how much it plays on your conscience when you're not doing it. I have a pretty busy time outside of work - I'm rehearsing for our next musical "The King and I" - I'm playing Tuptim, which is a big singing role for me, so I've also been having singing lessons and spend 40mins+ each evening practising singing. I've also been playing badminton 2-3 times a week to try and keep in shape... it all takes its toll on the drawing, I'm afraid.

Anyway, below you can see some examples of my latest work: the first is Purdy, a very handsome pointer. This was commissioned by a work colleague, who was very pleased with her portrait....

This next drawing is another commission of a Gibbon - a gift for his keeper.
